My Nonsensical Hobbies
Just a few of my hobbies other than Mech modelling. It all seems eclectic (Dad would say it's just a big old damn mess), but it also reflects how I spend my time when not working. I'm pretty full-on organized and disciplined on the job, but off-duty I tend to do things nobody else does:
Writing - Mostly fanfiction (Yes, you may hate me as much as you wish for being worthless), but I've been told that its not bad writing (albeit nothing Shakespearean) I've been trying to write up something legit for years but it doesn't quite gel. Am considering taking up a Postgrad course on Writing if that'll help.
Cartooning - Yes, Manga is cartooning, not art. Comics aren't art, either. Not "Art"-art. I used to do little comic books when I was younger, essentially Western Superhero stories but with a Manga-ish style. I don't draw much nowadays, save for writing up plans to modify a mech model I'm working on. Like writing, it was something I would have liked to do legit, but unlike writing, my style of drawing isn't that good. And given how much effort I'd have to invest in drawing materials (I have a thing for pencils and watercolors)--I've got too many mechs to build, thanks.
Action Figures - I tackle mostly 1/6 scale (12-inch; i.e. G.I.Joe big size) figures, mostly for fun as I don't have enough resources to become a true 1/6 historical modeller. I jump between 1980-90's military and the occassional fictional military group, to sci-fi/Japanese Superheroes. I also collect 1/18 Scale (Star Wars/G.I.Joe) figures, and some 1/12 figures from the Figma and Revoltech line.
PC Games - Majority FPS. Nothing really much to say here, most men play FPS. I tend to lean towards Realistic Military FPS like Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon, or those with immersive story, such as Half-Life or Stalker.
Reading - This is where it gets confusing. I normally go for Science-Fiction or Military/Espionage thrillers, but in all honesty, it depends on the book. My main rule for books is that they should really engage me and my interest. I've read a couple of Gothic Romances (Guys, get over it. Women ARE good at writing creepy ambiance in novels), historical drama (Pearl S. Buck's The Good Earth was good, but it's F###-ALL NOTHING like the Chinese family I grew up in!), and nonfiction books. I don't care. Whatever topic catches my fancy at the time, I read it. I'm not a voracious reader, but I like to pick and sample. In my opinion, the worst thing an author of a book can do is bore the living hell out of me.
